From global public health to local classrooms —
I’m here because education transformed my life.
My name is Brad Longman. I’m a Technical Director for the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative and a Public Health Instructor of Record at Oregon State University. I also serve on the Corvallis Rural Fire Protection District budget committee and am president of Corvallis Little League.
Before all that, I was a first-generation college student trying to find my way. I know what it feels like to be unsure whether school is “for you.” That’s why I believe so strongly in community colleges—they provide flexible, affordable pathways to careers, confidence, and stability.
My academic journey led me to the Ph.D. program in Global Health and an M.P.H. in Epidemiology from OSU, along with an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. But I never forgot where I started—or how life-changing public education can be when we invest in it fully.
As a public health leader, I’ve worked on disease prevention programs in some of the world’s most complex settings. As a teacher, I mentor students navigating the same systems I once struggled through. And as a parent and community member, I believe we owe it to the next generation to make LBCC a springboard to opportunity.
I’m running because I want every student — regardless of background — to feel seen, supported, and ready to thrive.
